What Will I Teach?
American teachers develop their own curriculum ensuring the content will be age appropriate. The classes range from elementary to high school levels. Some examples from previous years are: Developing a class around their hobby, Learning about American Presidents, Arts and Crafts, American Literature, Sports, Conversational English, etc. The most important thing to remember is engaging the students in English conversation! They need opportunities to use their English and to hear your American accent!
The program has limited books that can be used in the classes, as well as other materials available for projects. If you want to bring your personal items to share with the students, please bring them with you in your carry-on luggage so that you will be sure to have them when the classes start.
The classes are scheduled to begin in the morning, followed by a lunch break. Afternoon activities will follow the lunch break. These activities may include baseball, crafts, bingo, volleyball, yoga and more. If you have an activity you would like to lead, please contact the director and plans can be made to schedule it. All teachers must help in the supervision and participate in these activities. The afternoon activities run about an hour and will conclude the day for the students. The teaching group is free for the rest of the afternoon.
